Privacy policy

This policy explains how Your Company (Pty) Ltd (“On The Go”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects personal information when you use our website, apps and delivery service. We are the responsible party under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

1. What we collect

  • Drivers: your name, email address, phone number, ID or passport number, vehicle type and registration, driver's licence number, approval status, ratings, whether you are online, and your location while you are online or on a delivery.
  • Customers and recipients: your name, phone number, delivery address and any delivery notes, together with the order reference and the number of items. This is usually supplied to us by the business you ordered from.
  • Businesses: your business name, pickup location and contact details.
  • Payments: card and bank details are handled by our payment provider. We receive confirmation that a payment was made and its amount, not your card number.
  • This website: our web host keeps standard server logs, such as IP address and browser type, for security. We do not use cookies or third-party trackers on this website.

2. Why we use it

  • To keep the service safe and prevent fraud
  • To meet our legal obligations and improve the service

3. Location

A driver's location is collected while they are online or on a delivery, including when the app is in the background, so that the business and the customer can follow the delivery. Sharing stops when the driver goes offline. A driver can withdraw location permission in their phone settings, but will not be able to accept deliveries without it. A customer's location is used only as the drop-off address they provide.

4. Who we share it with

We share information with the people who need it to complete a delivery. The business sends the order. The driver sees the pickup point and the customer's name, delivery address and notes. The customer sees the driver's name and live location during the delivery.

We also share information with service providers that help us run the service, including our hosting and database provider, our payment provider, and map and routing services, which receive the coordinates needed to draw a route. When a driver taps Navigate, the address is passed to Google Maps, which has its own privacy policy. We share information with authorities or regulators where the law requires it. We do not sell personal information.

5. Where it is processed

Some of our service providers may process information outside South Africa. Where they do, we take steps to make sure it is protected to a standard comparable to POPIA.

6. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as the law requires, for example for financial and tax records. When we no longer need it, we delete or anonymise it.

7. Keeping it safe

We use encryption in transit and access controls, so that people can see only the information they need to do their part of a delivery. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information, and we will tell you and the Information Regulator if there is a breach that affects you, as the law requires.

8. Your rights

You can ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. You can also object to certain uses. To make a request, email privacy@example.com from the address on your account. We may need to confirm your identity first.

Deleting your account: send the same request. We will delete or anonymise your information within 30 days, except for records we must keep by law.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, please contact us first. You can also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.

9. Children

Our service is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

10. Cookies

This website does not use cookies or third-party trackers, and it loads its fonts from our own server.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
